Dropout Year - The Way We Play

A wildly revamped Myspace isn't the only present that Maryland favorite Dropout Year brings to the table. While they weren't busy surfing front-of-walmart- kiddie dragons, or beating each other with giant foam ramrods, Steve, Brandon, Adam, Dan and Jordan were back in the studio crafting brand new tunes. Almost a year after the release of their acoustic EP On A Lighter Note, FACrock's first featured artist returns with their new record The Way We Play.
With themes focusing mainly on song writing, touring, and inspiration, The Way We Play tells the story of the long journey Dropout Year has taken on the start of their musical career. Embracing the worldly loved sound of polished pop-punk, these five guys continue to grow within their genre.
Push play and within seconds, the smooth guitar and vocals of "The Notebook" introduce a more organized and matured Dropout Year. This aura is backed by the song's lyrics regarding the past year of writing and recording. The well written words are full of confident convictions like "I'm gonna write in this notebook you never get to read through/ With phrases that I took from conversation with you/ And throw them in the air with the possibility/ These will be the words that you’ll someday sing."
"Mile Marker" is a head bobbing power pop track. The opening guitar is musically similar to something you might have found at the end of a veteran Blink 182 album. The lyrics are focused on heading home to a love after a long time out on the road. "Pretty You" is another love song-esque emotional ballad backed by a combo of acoustic and electric guitar. The uniquely written four minute long track is told almost completely in real time by explaining a four minute long day(middle-of-the-night)dream.
The album closes with "As You Wish," another spot on pop-punk track. The guitar, bass, and drums blend in effortless and catchy fashion. The final minutes' music is guaranteed to force the cheesy kind of grin you'd get when randomly hearing something like… the theme song to Full House being belted by your most spontaneous friend (in an undeniably good way).
The Way We Play showcases the efforts this rising band has put into their art thus far. The music is evolved and the lyrics are by far their best to date. As a FACRock featured artist veteran, we are proud once again to support the rockers of Dropout Year. We encourage you to open up your iTunes and purchase the new album immediately!
